Tonight ChatWorks Beta 13 Part 1 was released. This is the first of a multi-part beta that is currently in development. Part 1 is an important peice of Beta 13 in many ways. First, it cleans up a lot of Beta 12s short comings (such as the horrible background operation). Second a lot of the UI has been cleaned up internally to make way for a more appealing interface. Finally, there have been a lot of improvements to the way notifications are handled. Here's a small list of major improvements to ChatWorks:
- Better background operation - Better notification options - New preferences to handle some advanced options - Hi-res icon and title graphic - Ability to add/remove IM accounts directly from the account list in the main form - Many small bug fixes/code clean ups
To the current testers this beta won't look/feel a whole lot different from previous versions. The main difference is handling of the connection in the background. Beta 13 Part 2 will showcase a number of UI improvments and a much better initial program/account setup interface (currently in development).

Just thought it was time to give everyone an update on ChatWorks Beta 13. I've been hammering away at the new beta for quite some time and I must say I really like how it's going. Most of the functionality problems have been pretty well ironed out. Lately I've been working primarily on cleaning up the the user interface, this includes making my buttons look kind of 3D as well as a much improved setup screen. I've been dreading this part of development for quite some time. Up until now I have left the user interface pretty plain and functional. This was necessary to track down and kill bugs that were related to the back end instead of the front end. Now, though, it's time to make things look good. The problem with that is that I can be very very particular about how the final product turns out. An example of this is the new 3D buttons. When you see them you'll think "That doesn't look much different than other 3D buttons I've seen. In fact that's just a simple gradient in a box." Behind the scenes, however, there's a lot more going on. The gradients that you will see are actually the UI color that you've chosen with your theme and have been faded to appear 3D. Anyway, this is just one of the many small things I'm doing to create a clean final product. I've also squashed a number of small bugs that have been lurking for a while. Expect something better than ever really soon!

PhoneSwitch 1.1.4 was released last night. This release is only necessary for people who use the Treo 650 and/or have had resets while using PocketTunes. No other features/bug fixes were made in this release.

Thanks to a PhoneSwitch user named Keith I have found the cause of improper operation on the Treo 650. It appears that the Treo 650 sends a different notification indicating the call hangup if the user initiates it. If the other party hangs up then the correct notification is sent. I'll try to get an update posted tonight which uses this different notification for Treo 650 users. One note though: the notification that the 650 uses is the conference call hung up notification. This means that Treo 650 users will probably get pulled out of the phone program when hanging up a real conference call. Anyway, more on this later.

PhoneSwitch 1.1.3 has been released. I have solved the resets after launching certain apps like "Camcorder". This should also solve resets when launching quick launch type items and whatnot. Also I have found that Reset Doctor wasn't causing any problems (cache management or not) so sorry for blaming your software Rob! If you haven't done so already please download PhoneSwitch 1.1.3. Found here. Also, it's been discovered that some Treo 650s aren't handling call hangups quite right. I'm still investigating what's causing this problem and will be putting service back on to my Treo 650 tomorrow to properly test it.
